In residential metal roofing, there are generally three types of systems. One is an exposed fastener system. This type of system utilizes pre-formed metal panels where the fastener is seen. Fasteners are then screwed through both panel surfaces and panel laps to secure them to the decking or framing strips. The second type of system is a concealed fastener system which can be standing seam. In the standing seam system, panels are installed over decking, utilizing metal clips. Batten caps are then installed, concealing both panel legs and clips. Although personal preference plays a major role in the selection process, the type of system selected is greatly influenced by the style of the residence and by project budget.
